Awesome idea.
Why? Simply put; this way every other player doesn't look the damn same. I'm sick of everyone in Droks, but I can't afford to be elitist and go the 15k route, or FoW. Hence, this idea is brilliant. Also, it would make everyone really look different unless they all like the same collector.

this would have saved me the trouble of collecting all those ectos for fissure pants so I wouldn't have to wear a skirt on my armor to have +2 energy

the possible problems is somone could get 15k plate or ascalon and "Upgrade" to a 1.5k glads set, and keep the 15K style.

/signed. I'd like this I expect.
Of course, this could just shift it around the armors so now NO ONE wears the Mesmer Enchanters' set or the Warrior Glad's set... Wouldn't it be funny if by removing the thing we think causes all the "clones", that instead we actually created a whole new era of "fashion clones" where EVERYONE wants to wear the same armor because it looks the best?

This, coming from me because I have numerous sets of Obsidian Armor, and I do use it regularly when I play, so if they do decide to increase the Armor Rating later, I am able to still use that armor rather than going through the hassle of working for new armor just to keep up. -_- Though, customizing stats may not be good, but upgrading Armor Rating. I think I lost myself on this one.

Too a point I agree...armor bonuses should match armor appearences and common sense...as little as I may have/GW may have. What I mean is Glads armor should not have more physical defence then full plate. So you can upgrade your armor but only to the corresponding better version. As far as RL relation to this. If you want steel's usefulness you got to take steels look.
Related: I hate how all fissure armor looks the same on general principal though I like the monk/necro having the choice to get +mana without tats/scars...meaning WE NEED MORE ARMOR VARIATION PERIOD...MORE A.Net MORE...ok I know we only paid 50 once, mostly.
